Furniture For A Lifetime - Custom Furniture in Toronto
Department of Interiors has forged an exclusive alliance with one of Canada’s finest custom furniture builders. Hand crafted sofas, chairs, ottomans and headboards are our answer to the mass market assembly line furniture that has flooded the marketplace. “We wanted to offer the flexibility and superior quality of hand built furniture and create a bespoke product that could be passed down for generations.” Unfortunately, most name brand assembly line furniture today is not made by one builder. The frames often are mass assembled in the orient without using the correct acclimatized woods or using inferior stapled construction, and the balance of production is completed elsewhere and as a result, overall quality is compromised.
By comparison, our workroom is completely in charge of the building process from start to finish; all kiln-dried maple frames are double doweled, corner blocked and screwed (never stapled) and framed edges are soft upholstered in layers of top grade materials, burlap and high density foam. Not only are pieces 8-way hand coiled, but we also use up to 18 hand tied springs per seating area, so an average sofa can contain 58 coils.
In 18th century England, it was often the furniture builders and fabric suppliers providing the interior décor of the finest homes of that era. Through our fabric-based interior design service, Department of Interiors pays homage to that tradition.Robert Warsh
